Middle-Class Delight: 5 Affordable EVs Under Rs 10 Lakh with 400 km Range Coming Soon (OpenAi)
New Delhi: The demand for electric vehicles is increasing rapidly in the country and in this context, auto companies are now betting on cars offering long range at affordable prices. In the coming time, many such electric cars are going to hit the Indian market, which will be able to run for about 400 kilometers on a single charge. The special thing is that these models are being prepared keeping in mind the middle class customers, due to which the scope of EV segment is expected to become bigger.
Now in the auto industry, not only price but also range has become a big factor. While earlier budget electric cars were limited to a range of 200 to 300 kilometers, now companies are producing models that can cover a range of up to 400 kilometers. This has a direct impact on customer confidence because longer range reduces 'range anxiety'. Some models already present in India have strengthened this trend by giving a range of around 400 km.
Many companies are planning to launch new electric cars in the entry-level and mid-range segments. Some of these will be small hatchback models, while some will be in the compact SUV segment. VinFast, MG and other companies are working on such projects, whose price will be relatively low but there will be no compromise in terms of features and range. Some models are already present in the international market and now preparations are being made to bring them to India.
The biggest question is whether a car with 400 km range will be available for around Rs 10 lakh. At present the options in this segment are limited, but companies are trying to fill this gap. Companies like MG Motor are working on electric cars priced under Rs 10 lakh, which can directly compete with models like Tata Tiago EV and Citroen eC3.
Affordable electric options are coming not only in small cars but also in the compact SUV segment. Some of the upcoming models will claim to offer a range of up to 400 km and will also be priced keeping the mid-segment customers in mind. This will benefit those customers who want space and power as well as long range.
The increasing range and falling prices of electric cars may change the entire market equation in the coming years. While petrol and diesel cars currently dominate, affordable and long-range EVs will challenge this balance. Government policies and new strategies of companies together can play a big role in bringing electric mobility to the common people.
